Bayonet” or “Hairpins” heat-exchangers are used where a temperature cross is present - for example lean to rich amine and glycol applications, or when the following conditions apply: Thermal shock, high terminal temperature differences (without the use of expansion joint), Cycling service, Ease of cleaning (when Solids are present in the process stream), High pressure of Tube-side.
